Welcome to the August 2020 Newsletter

I hope all's well in your worlds?

My July has been a mix of full-on work balanced with trying to get in as many sea-swims as the tides and my work diary would allow.  I managed enough to make me feel like I was having some breaks :-)

My new Leading from Love programme, a 6 week online exploration beginning in September, has just two spaces remaining and so if you or anyone you know might be interested in one of them, please do let me know, especially as I am offering this first one at a heavily discounted fee.  I'm about to schedule dates for the second cohort starting in November and so if you felt able to spread the word in your social networks, that would be wonderful.   Details of the programme are here

I'll be back in touch late in August with a separate Newsletter, a rare break from the monthly schedule, as I'm planning my next piece of research into love and leadership and I really want your input to help me shape it.  In preparation, you can download the original research here and then I'll be asking where you want me to explore next.  Watch out for it in your Inbox.

Wishing you a lovely August, and I'll be back with more in September.

With love

Featured this Month:
  • The piece I mentioned last month on eldership and its links with love and leadership which really helped me to consolidate a lot of thinking.
  • Even for those of you who know the work of the poet David Whyte, a recommendation to listen to a particular recording of his that made me sob my way to the sea and back. :-)

For more information please see below or visit my website. If you have any questions please do get in touch.
Eldership, leadership and love
I now have around 7 or 8 books exploring 'eldership' in one way or another.  Some are read and heavily marked up; others waiting for the spines to be cracked open.  And podcasts too, with new lines of inquiry opening up all the time into this fascinating area which means that pile of books is growing fast.

Exploring eldership is taking me into some fabulous new and also familiar-but-through-a different-lens territory and I can see I'll be reading for while. So while I'm doing that, here's my first stab at putting something down on paper.

As ever when I read and write, the reflection process holds up a mirror to me and my work - and this time it's asking me some big questions.

You can read it here...
Self Compassion with David Whyte
As I headed off to drive down to the coast for one of those sea-swims I mentioned, I grabbed a CD as I left the house.  It was one that I had recently glimpsed stuck at the back of shelf several times over the weeks, only noticed when I was upside down and looking between my legs in Downward Facing Dog (online yoga at home - heaps of it). Now dusty, I'd forgotten I had it and thought I'd give it another listen while I was in the car.

It lasted an hour, time for the journey down and the journey back.  And I cried all the way in both directions.  If you don't already know the work of the philosopher-poet David Whyte, please do look him up.  It won't take you long to see why I am such a fan and you'll soon see why I think so much of his work is about love.   And also about ledership and leadership, as it happens.

And if you want to see what all my tears were about, then it's The Poetry of Self Compassion that you'll want to download :-)

Let me know what you think of it.

Still not much happening in the world of events, but I have  couple of podcasts coming out soon that I'll share here as soon as they're ready.

The 6th Relational Coaching Conference on 'Love over Fear' at Ashridge, exploring how we create the conditions for love to emerge in a coaching relationship has now found a new home on 25th June 2021.  That should be safe enough, we hope!  Do add the date to your diary - and I hope to see some of you there.

Let's Connect
If the idea of love in organisations interests you (or maybe more interestingly if you think that love doesn't have a place in organisations...) come and explore it with me. You could hold a Learning Lunch session for your team on the role love might play in leadership - or run my 'Leading from Love' survey in your organisation. You might welcome a 1:1 session to explore your own relationship with love. Or take part in one of my Action Inquiry groups, exploring love in the workplace. Whatever, please do get in touch as I'd welcome the chance to explore this with you further.

Beyond that my leadership development work is all about conversations and relationships and building programmes that really open participants' eyes to new ways of seeing and working. Yes even virtually.  So whether you're interested in finding out more about that, want some good books recommendations, or can share your own experiences of developing leadership, it would be good to hear from you.

I'm social too so you can follow me on Twitter and LinkedIn or connect via Email. Or call me of course, whichever suits.
